Fine Art Photography you can buy, frame and enjoy
I was introduced to photography by my father when he gave me my first camera, a Kodak Brownie Special Six-20, over forty years ago. The camera took 120 black & white film and was little more than a box with a mechanical shutter. I was fascinated by contrast and how changing my position in relation to the subject and sun dramatically affected the photograph. This was the beginning of my love affair with photography.
I worked odd jobs for neighbors such as mowing lawns and shoveling snow to raise money to purchase film and pay for processing. As my skills progressed I saved to purchase the newest and best cameras available to me at the time.
My first purchase was a Kodak Instamatic 104 which took color cartridge film. The advent of color film changed the dynamics of my photography. It was more forgiving than black & white photography and allowed me to concentrate more on perfecting composition.
I than purchased a Kodak Instamatic 60 with a telephoto lens. Merely by pushing a lever I could magnify my subject and make it appear closer. The camera also had settings that allowed me to adapt to light conditions. I experimented with both light and composition and honed my skills further. It was an easy transition for me from the early point and shoot cameras to the Olympus OM-1 SLR. It had the ability to change lenses, add filters, select ISO, shutter speed and aperture and allowed me to further enhance end photographic results.
The advent of digital photography allowed me to experiment more with photographic expression since there was not cost for film or processing and I could see the end results immediately. Using first a Canon PowerShot A75 and later a Canon PowerShot A85 for land based photography and later coupled with a Canon WP-DC 30 Housing and Sea & Sea YS-25 Auto Strobe for underwater photography I began to obtain professional results.
My current choice of camera equipment for both land based and underwater photography is a Canon 50D DSLR with a series of professional lenses and strobes combined with an Ikelite Housing and Ikelite DS160 Strobes for underwater photography.
Whether land based or under the sea, locally or around the world I continue to push the boundaries of photographic expression.
